I am so proud!!!

Tomorrow...TOMORROW it will one year since my mom quit smoking!

A WHOLE YEAR!!!

I've bugged her to quit my entire life! And she has...several times...but only for a few weeks or so. Then a friend of hers would come over to our house at night and smoke since she didn't want her family to know that
she smoked....and so the cycle continued.

But then...a year and umm...6 weeks ago, my Granny stopped smoking after God Knows how many years and she did it all by herself!!! My mom had said many times before that if Granny quit then she would too. So of course, as soon as I OH MY GOD THERE'S A WASP IN THE HOUSE AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH

ok....wasp has been terminated....umm....what was I saying?

Oh yeah...so as soon as I heard that Granny had quit smoking, I called up my mom and said "
now you have to quit too!!!!!" And her reply was "if Granny doesn't start smoking again in six weeks, then I'll quit too."

Six weeks and a few more days past and I finally called her up again and said "
have you quit?" and she said that she hadn't yet, but was going to on the 31st and I said "Good! That's Halloween! It will be easy to remember."

And OMIGOD it's been a WHOLE YEAR!!!!! (almost)

I just couldn't contain my happiness and joy until tomorrow so I had to let a little bit spill out today!

She sometimes reads this so......

YAY MOM! Congratulations!!!!!

When I was little, I had all kinds of ways of destroying my mom's cigarettes. As soon as she would turn her back, I'd put a lit one out, doing my best to crush it without burning myself. Or if I was near a sink, I'd put it under the water. But what I'm most proud of is when I managed to hide an entire carton! I was looking for a pen and came across a whole unopened carton of cigarettes in a drawer. I wasn't sure if I could successfully get rid of the whole carton, but I knew I had to try (trying to make as big of a deal out of this as I can). My parents have a refrigerator/freezer in the kitchen (as most do) but also a seperate huge freezer in the pantry for...well...frozen stuff. There was a box of popsicles in there that had maybe 3 or 4 popsicles left in it so I decided to go for it. I took the popsicles out of the popsicle box (do you like how many times I'm saying popsicle? popsicle, popsicle, popsicle, popsicle, popsicle!) and wedged the whole carton of cigarettes (didn't even bother taking them out of the carton!) into the bottom, and miraculously, it was a perfect fit! I took this as a sign from up above that I should continue my cigarette-destroying behavior. Anyway, I put the rest of the....POPSICLES (haha) back into the box to hid the cigarettes and turned the box around to look like it was new and hadn't been opened yet. I also put some other things in front of the box to hopefully hide it.

Later that night (or maybe it was the next night) I sat and watched as my mom took everything out of her purse, and went through every drawer in the kitchen....trying to look all innocent. I was successful because when she asked if I had seen them and I said "No." she believed me.

SUCKER!!! Hee hee!!!!

Fast forward about 10-11 years and I've moved away and am married and I'm talking to my mom on the phone and I happen to remember the cigarettes in the freezer. I start joking about it and there's just silence on the other end of the line.

So I had to recount this whole story to her, and she didn't believe me. So I told her to go look for herself. Which she did. And I waited. Patiently.

Needless to say, she was happy that she wasn't going crazy like she thought she was all those years ago!

I told her she needed to clean out her freezer more often!

As Elvis so eloquently (?)stated..."Well thunk you..thunk you very much". And I thank YOU for your moral support-even the last 20 years of nagging :). You were the definite impetus behind this, and your tenacity truly paid off...merci beaucoup.
